The “Interagency Commission on Defense Reforms, as well as Increasing the Effectiveness of Fight against Vicious Phenomena” started its activities

Today, the first meeting of the “Interagency Commission on Defense Reforms, as well as Increasing the Effectiveness of Fight against Vicious Phenomena” chaired by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan took place in the big hall of the Government consultations and receptions. The Commission objectives are the identification of the existing problems in defense sector, identification of their causes, prevention of superventions, reduction of risks and submission of proposals for implementation of reforms in the defense sector of the Republic of Armenia.

The Prime Minister mentioned in his speech “Currently, immense reforms are being taken in the Armed Forces. These reforms are taking place on a full scale, and there is a clear vision, strategy and tactics for their implementation. Of course, these reforms must continue, and in the meantime, there is a need to have a chance to look at the issue externally. For this very reason the Commission has been established under the Security Council.”

The Chairman of the Commission, the Security Council Secretary Mr. Armen Grigoryan emphasized the importance of the defense sector reforms aimed at increasing the effectiveness of military service, preventing the penetration of vicious habits, preventing suicides in the army, and eliminating their causes, strengthening democratic control over the Armed Forces, and pursuing the anti-corruption policy and benevolence.

Issues related to the activities of the Commission were furtherly discussed during the meeting.
