President of the Republic of Armenia, Chairman of the National Security Council Serzh Sargsyan today convened a meeting of the National Security Council.
The meeting was attended by the Chairman of the RA National Assembly Hovik Abrahamyan, Prime Minister of the RA Tigran Sargsyan, Secretary of the National Security Council Arthur Baghdasaryan, Vice Prime Minister of the RA Armen Gevorgyan, Defense Minister of the RA Seyran Ohanyan, Foreign Minister of the RA Edward Nalbandyan, Chief of Staff of the RA President Vigen Sargsyan, Prosecutor General of the RA Aghvan Hovsepyan, Director of the National Security Service of the RA Gorik Hakobyan, Head of the RA Police Vladimir Gasparyan, Chief of the General Staff of the RA Armed Forces Yuri Khachaturov.
Within the framework of the agenda a draft national strategy for the protection of human rights was discussed. The human rights defender of the Republic of Armenia also participated in the discussion. Council members also discussed issues of summing up the military-political stage of the upcoming joint military exercises of the CSTO called "Interaction-2012", scheduled for September, and the military-political stage of the strategic command and staff exercises of the Armenian armed forces, scheduled for October.
Before proceeding to the agenda, the President addressed the topic of the local government elections held on September 9, noting, that the elections were held organized, without serious incidents, in a competitive environment, and the Central Election Commission summed up the results. “Complaints were filed in nine communities demanding a recount - five of them were related to the election of the head of the community, four - to the election of the council of elders. The recount was carried out in the presence of interested parties with the participation of the Central Election Commission, and no deviations were found. Moreover, the lists of the persons who were absent from the Republic of Armenia were checked, but for some unknown reason they allegedly participated in the voting. No such cases have been identified.
I would like also to note that those members of the National Security Council who are absent today are on a business trip. I say this, so that tomorrow or tonight would not have started unnecessary gossip on this topic” - said President Serzh Sargsyan.
